Hey man, so first off how did you get started in Jiu Jitsu? I started training in judo when I was really young, like 7 or 8 years old. Then I began training in submission grappling when I was 19, and finally I started training bjj in the gi in 2004.
You received your black belt from Roger gracie, do you still train with him regular, and how is the training? I haven't really trained with Roger that much over the past couple of years - when I train with him it's really tough though.
You are the founder of Jiu Jitsu brotherhood, can you tell us a bit about that? Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood is a movement I started to help spread the community and fraternity aspects of the art of bjj. It started off as a couple of blog posts but now it's grown into a network of academies and a website with thousands of readers each month.
You are due to fight a superbout against claudio silva at the next ground control event, this is a rematch of a match that happened back in 2007, obviously you know a bit about your opponent, how is your preparation going for this? My training is good - I'm doing a lot of wrestling and kettlebell training so my conditioning is good.
Of course now you are both black belts do you feel your game has changed much since the first encounter? I'm a much stronger fighter physically than I was then. I've improved all of my attributes and also been working a lot on my judo and wrestling. I'd say I'm a 20 - 30% better fighter than I was back then.
